DEWALT is a market-leading brand that’s synonymous with superior-quality tools for professional applications. It’s rare to find a DEWALT drill that doesn’t carry a premium price-tag, but you almost always get what you pay for. And that’s precisely why I genuinely didn’t know to expect from the DEWALT DCD777C2 Drill Driver.
On sale with an enormous reduction at less than $100, the DEWALT DCD777C2 Lithium-Ion Drill Driver appears to combine pro-grade hardware with home-toolbox prices. It’s still a big step up from the sub-$50 drills that frequent most households, but isn’t what you’d call overpriced.
Especially when considering its brushless motor, enormous power, extended operational time and the inclusion of a convenient carry bag.
Could the DEWALT DCD777C2 Brushless Compact Drill Driver be the ultimate tool at an unbeatable price? That’s what we’ll be taking a closer look at in this review.
DEWALT DCD777C2 20V Max Lithium-Ion Brushless Compact Drill Driver Review – Features
If you’re familiar with DEWALT tools, you’ll know they’re less about superfluous features, more about getting the job done with complete consistency. In the case of the DEWALT DCD777C2, it’s a pretty basic package that includes the bare essentials only as follows:
- 1 x Cordless Drill Driver
- 1 x Battery
- 1 x Battery Charger
- 1 x Carry Case
As a result, you’ll need to ensure you’ve already got the various bits and accessories needed to get the job done. Unlikely to be an issue for pro tradesmen – the main market for this high-performance drill. Bursting with cutting-edge technology, the most important features and selling points of the drill (as highlighted by DEWALT) are as follows:
The inclusion of a brushless motor not only significantly increases the lifespan of the drill, but also extends its run time by as much as 75% per charge. The result of which being less time spent charging the battery, more time getting the job done.
Superior Power and Performance
DEWALT has packed this compact drill with all the power and performance needed to deal with the vast majority of applications. The high-performance motor is capable of putting out 340W of power, with two-speed settings available and a no-load speed of 0-50 & 1,750 Rpm.
Supplied with Two Batteries
Along with superior output and battery life in general, the DEWALT DCD777C2 compact drill is supplied complete with two batteries for even greater versatility.
The powerful trigger-activated LED has been designed to stay illuminated for 20 seconds after the trigger is released, improving visibility when working in darker conditions and awkward corners.
The handle of the DEWALT DCD777C2 has been designed to provide a comfortable and secure grip in even the toughest working environments, while the lightweight design of the drill makes it ideal for more prolonged and demanding projects.
Both of the batteries supplied with the DEWALT DCD777C2 are compatible with an extensive range of more than 180 power tools from DEWALT.
My Experience with the DEWALT DCD777C2 Drill
If you’ve spent any time whatsoever working with a sub-$50 drill, you’ll understand the difference the moment you pick this thing up. The DEWALT DCD777C2 may be a little more expensive, but trust me – you get what you pay for. It isn’t a case of simply paying for the name – DEWALT is a brand that consistently outperforms the competition in all areas that matter.
The sheer power and performance of the DEWALT DCD777C2 are superb, which can be meticulously controlled with 16 clutch settings and two speeds. Whether drilling surfaces or driving delicate screws into hardwood, there’s a feeling of total control from start to finish. It’s not like the DEWALT DCD777C2 is packed with ground-breaking features, but what it does, it does brilliantly.
It may not have all the power needed to cope with the most intensive site applications, but it’s as good as any midrange cordless doing the rounds right now. The kit itself may lack any bits or accessories of any kind, but it does at least come with two rechargeable batteries. For me, this is an absolute deal-breaker – one battery charging while the other’s in use, so you need never run out of juice at an inconvenient moment.
The carry case is also pretty neat, though I’ve already got a bunch of these lying around the place! If anything, my only slight criticism would be that I found it slightly uncomfortable to hold after working with it for a few straight hours. Nevertheless, I attribute this more to the fact that I’ve got quite large hands than any actual fault with the drill.
- One of the best mid-range drills on the market
- Exceptional value for money
- Includes two rechargeable batteries
- Convenient carry case included
- Brushless motors for prolonged life
- Two-year manufacturer’s warranty
- An excellent tool from a world-renowned brand
- Perhaps not the most comfortable drill to hold (for me at least!)
All in all, the DEWALT DCD777C2 Compact Drill Driver serves as an important and affordable stepping-stone between low-cost DIY drills and ultra-premium professional products. As mentioned, the difference between this thing and your typical $50 power-tool is absolutely huge.
What’s more, it also represents outstanding value for money, when considering there’s a second battery in the box as standard.
If you’ve been thinking about upgrading to a higher-quality drill, but you’d prefer not to overspend, this could be as good as it gets. I picked mine up for less than $100, and the price seemed almost too good to be true.
