If you’ve read any review I’ve published before, you’ll know that I base most of my suggestions and conclusions on value for money. When shopping for a drill/driver, this is what matters most – getting something decent for the cash you hand over. In the case of the Black & Decker LDX120C 20V MAX Lithium-Ion Drill Driver, you get something more than decent. Frankly, you get an absolute bargain of a 20-volt drill/driver.
These guys have been putting out hit after hit for decades now, never failing to pair exceptional performance with rock-bottom prices. The LDX120C being no exception to the rule – a versatile 20-volt max lithium-ion drill that’s bursting with potential. It’s a point I’ll try not to keep hammering on about, but the fact that it sells for around $40 is practically astonishing.
Powerful enough to cope with most everyday jobs, it also does the business in terms of battery life and user-friendliness. Lightweight, easy to use, and with all the usual built-in safety features, seriously, what more could you ask for?
It might not be heavy-enough for aggressive commercial or industrial use, but that’s not what it was designed for. Check out the rest of my 20-volt max lithium ion drill BLACK+DECKER LDX120C review for a more detailed rundown of its features and selling points.
Features of Black & Decker LDX120C
It’s a pretty basic setup as far as the kit is concerned, which contains the drill itself and the most basic accessories. The full contents of the package are as follows:
- One 20-Volt Max Lithium Drill/Driver
- 1-Lbx20 20-Volt Max Lithium-Ion Battery
- 1-Lcs20 Charger
- 1-Double-Ended Bit
So, you’ll need to set yourself up with the bits and drivers you’ll be needing to get the job done, but these are hardly expensive accessories to come by. And once again, you can’t realistically expect a full suite of accessories when you’re paying $40 for a branded drill.
As far as Black & Decker itself is concerned, the biggest selling-points and most attractive features of the LDX120C are as follows:
Versatile, Multipurpose Performance
This affordable power tool has been designed to handle most everyday DIY applications with ease. Ideal for drilling into metal plastic, wood, and all screw driving tasks, the Black & Decker LDX120C focuses on simplicity and usability, over and above more complex features.
Lithium-Ion Technology & 20V MAX
BLACK+DECKER 3/8-Inch 20V MAX Cordless Drill Driver with advanced lithium-ion battery technology results in a high-performance cell that’s also significantly lighter and more compact than comparable batteries. It also provides very impressive run time and eliminates battery memory from the equation, so there’s no harm in partially charging the battery.
11 Position Clutch
A variety of settings make the Black & Decker LDX120C easy to handle and control when drilling into a variety of materials. The same also applies to screw-driving tasks, without the risk of stripping the screw where excessive force is not required.
Compact and Lightweight
Everything about the Black & Decker LDX120C has been designed to maximize convenience while minimizing weight. With an official weight of just 3.5lbs and an ergonomic grip for maximum comfort, it’s a sleek and slender tool that’s great for more intensive and time-consuming jobs.
Interchangeable Battery
The battery that comes with the drill is compatible with an extensive range of power tools from Black & Decker. An exceptional feature that’s great for owners of multiple Black & Decker tools.
My Experience with the Black & Decker LDX120C
Once again, I’d like to point out that I paid less than $40 for this thing, and it wasn’t even on special offer at the time. Considering its low price, I was immediately impressed by how lightweight and comfortable it was to hold, right out of the box. I also like to see what other buyers have to say about tools like these before going ahead and seeing what’s what.
I couldn’t help but note that some had criticised the Black+Decker LDX120C 3/8 inch Drill Driver for its lack of power, but seriously – it’s a $40 drill designed for casual household use. Put to the test, this ultra-affordable machine has more than enough torque to drill through hardwood, metal sheeting, and plastic surfaces with ease.
Driving screws into tricky materials is also an absolute breeze. It’s probably not the drill to reach for where masonry is concerned, but nor is it supposed to be. True to their word, Black & Decker’s latest lithium-ion battery does the business for far longer than I’d have expected.
I can’t give an exact time as I was stopping and starting between tests, but it was right up there with some of the better drills I’ve tested. It is super lightweight and easy to use.
Pros
- Exceptional performance for such a low price
- Beautifully compact and lightweight
- Very easy to use and surprisingly versatile
- Interchangeable battery with great runtime
- Ideal for almost any DIY application
- Absolutely unbeatable value for money
Cons
- Doesn’t ship with any bits or accessories
- Not powerful enough for heavy-duty applications
Final Thoughts
If I had to give a formal score for Black & Decker LDX120C Cordless Drill Driver, it would definitely be a strong 4.5 out of 5. The only thing standing in its way of 5 stars being a little more power, but you can’t argue with this level of performance for this kind of cash.
On the whole, it’s a comprehensively light, compact, and user-friendly drill that’s perfectly suited to any DIY application. Even when considering the added costs of buying your own bits and accessories, it’s still a ridiculous value for money at less than $40.
